If you read previous weeks blog, you know that EssentialsX was my top plugin for any server. EssentialsX is suited for any server, regardless of size or scale. If you did not read the blog about EssentialsX, you can read this short resume: EssentialsX is the essential plugin suite for Spigot servers, including over 130 commands and countless features. EssentialsX also includes several performance enhancements and fixes on top of the original Essentials, as well as plenty of new useful features for servers.
Before you install
If you have a host with a panel, you can most likely easily install EssenitalsX through the different panels. To find out how to check out your hosts' knowledge base etc. If not the first thing you will have to do to get EssentialsX is to check your server. You need to make sure your server works with plugins set up for Minecraft. You have some alternatives for this. You can start a Spigot, CraftBukitt or Paper server. There are also some requirements set by the creators you should follow. The requirements are the following:
EssentialsX is designed to use modern permissions plugins - we strongly recommend LuckPerms. You also need Vault for prefix/suffix support.
EssentialsX currently supports CraftBukkit, Spigot and Paper (recommended). Other server implementations may work, but we don't recommend them as they may cause compatibility issues.
What you choose is entirely up to you. I recommend Paper, mostly because Paper is generally considered to be more performant in direct comparison to Spigot due to further optimizations found in the server code. It also allows users to modify technical aspects of their Minecraft server, such as the ability to disable specific redstone features, TNT mechanisms, and more. You cannot install plugins if you do not have a Spigot or Paper server. Once this is fully set up you can move on to actually installing EssentialsX.
How to install
First off you have to install EssentilasX. You can do that here, remember to download from the official page. When downloading EssentialsX you should receive a JAR file named EsentialsX(Version). You need to take that JAR file and drag it into your server's "plugins" folder. Upon adding it to the "plugins" folder you need to restart your server, and it should have been successfully installed.
After downloading the plugin you may want to configure the plugin to suit your server better. In order to configure a plugin in general there should be a folder with the plugin name in your "plugins". In that folder, you can edit the files etc. in a text editor to configure the plugin.
There you go, you should have managed to successfully install EssentialsX to your server. If you still find this process difficult you can either comment below or even join the creators' discord. In their discord, there are plenty of people who can help you in your situation, and it is a very friendly community. If you encounter any bugs or issues, you can contact the creators through GitHub. Hope you enjoy the plugin!
